Winter, I love you even when I hate you

It is December already. Christmas is in under a month and it is safe to say that winter is here. But I shouldn't say that, shouldn't have said it weeks ago when we had our first snow fall. Winter is here. It is dark when we go to work and dark when we come home from work. It triggers something that makes me want to retreat to a soft, warm place for the next four months. A place with lots of sunlight, chocolate and colorful makeup.

I hate the cold. There is not enough fabrics in this house to keep me warm during Norwegian winters. I should just stay inside at all times, but we all know that's not happening. Winter is actually very beautiful, when the snow have covered the ground as a white blanket and the world looks so calm and quiet (and I am inside under an actual blanket sipping on a hot beverage). Then winter is fabulous! But right now I have a cold and am dreading the fact that in the morning I'll have to get up early for yet an other encounter with our coldest, darkest season.

Yes, we lost, but we were not last

Tonight some colleagues and I attended a quiz night at a local bar. We have decided to get together once a month and do this. It is fun, but it is also funny figuring out how unknowing we really are. How little we know and what small amount of knowledge about the rest of the world we really have. It's like we live in our own little bubbles and even though someone shares it on our facebook news feed we don't remember who won the World Cup or what year Mother Theresa got her Nobel Prize. We know the intire lyrics to the theme song to True Blood, but have no idea who wrote it, who sings it or even what it's called. There are 50 states in the USA and I can't even name ten.

It is also kind of sad to realize how much of the stuff we should know, things we learned in school, that we have forgotten. Like math, who remembers every thing they learned in the math classes? Or history for that mather. When it comes to remembering what year a war started or a great writer died, or even what year I got my first cell phone, I am totally lost.

Quiz night therefore can make some people feel more stupid than they do on other nights, but is that the case? Are we stupid for not reading every inch of the newspaper every morning and watching the news every evening? Does not knowing every thing that has happened since the beginning of life make my life poor?

Sometimes we choose what we want to know, what we want to remember. Every current or former student knows that we can not choose to remember everything and that is okey. It does not make us stupid, it makes us human.

I would never diss my own momma just to get recognition (Eminem)

Some people comment that it seems like bloggers live these perfect lives. It is easy to get this imprecision because we love to share the good moments. We post picture we like and write about things that excite us because this is what we choose to share. Most bloggers want their blog to be something readers will find positive and inspiring. That's why we read blogs, to get inspired. So when I don't blog for a few days it often means that I am uninspired and unable to feel inspiring to others.

Off course I could blog about the fact that my work out plan did not work out (hoho) and that my dinner on Sunday was four pieces of brownies that I made last week with the blueberry/raspberry/lemon sorbet I made on Saturday. Oh, and I had dessert, another four pieces of brownies. And that I spent my Friday and Saturday night alone on the sofa or in my makeup room with a glass of wine feeling lonely while my boyfriend was at work. I've spent several weekend this way, but this is not what I choose to share.

I share with you the makeup looks I did this weekend and the findings I do on web shops. The pictures I am pleased with, taken when I am bored, end up here. I might share some recipes and food pictures because I am starting to enjoy cooking more and more now. Would you like that? I share things that inspire me hoping it can inspire someone else.

I guess my point is that as a reader I want to read the positive things a blogger does because I have enough worries of my own, and I think most readers do. This doesn't mean that bloggers are perfect people with clean homes, a new outfit every day, fresh makeup at all times and a constant smile on their face. We blog for ourselves, not only for our readers, and sometimes what we need to do to feel a bit better about ourselves is to give the imprecision that we are in fact living a perfect life.

What do you like to read about on blogs?
